Best Thai:

Well, I'd vote for Jamjuree on 15th, but I hear that there's a great place in Lower Queen Anne in a little house or storefront that is really good.

And, no one say Thai Tom on the Ave. That's Khow San Rd. stall food - tasty perhaps, but not quite up to snuff. Or, up to phat thai as it were.

A good "off the radar" Thai Restaurant is "Thai Siam" on 15th NW in Ballard/Crown Hill - around 80th.

"Siam Thai" on Broadway and on Lake Union are always consistently good.

Oh yeah, Thai Siam is an undercover rockstar Thai place! Big servings, good prices.
Buddha Ruska in West Seattle is might tasty. I still like Thai Tom on the Ave in the U District, but good luck getting a seat.

When we moved here last February, Thai Siam was the first restaurant our friends took us to. I have to say, it was great.

Dara Thai on the Ave. It is just North of 50th, next to Liberty Tattoo. It used to be some other Thai place, can't remember the name. They do a great tom kah gai. Haven't really tried many of their other dishes because I can't get past that soup.

Also the place I can never remember the name of that is on Pike across from the Harvard Market QFC. I
got past the soup there and haven't had anything that wasn't good yet.

I think Nanan that you're referring to Ahyttaya (or, however you spell it) at the corner of Pike and Harvard? I've not been there for a while, but as I recall it was really good. Jamjuree good? We shall see!

        It is Ayutthaya. Thanks.

I think that they are about equally good. Jamjuree is more a place I would have Phad Kee Mao. Ayutthaya is one of the few places where I will order Seafood without much hesitation. Their fish cake appetizer is super yummy!

But, you should try leaving the hill and check out Dara Thai. They are a bit less glamorous, no where near as much gilt decor, but tasty. (and bonus! scary ave rats out front)

Try the Penang Curry at Jamjuree. It's one of the most consistently great dishes that can be had.

What I wish I'd see at any Thai restaurant here, is how in Thailand they will fry - often deep fat fry unfortunately - a whole fish, and then put one of a few different kinds of sauces on it and served it whole. THAT was great. I'd get that a few times a week. You'd just pick through the fish until it looked like one of those de-boned fishes on the cartoons.

If any of you come down to the Tacoma area, try 32 Silvers in Freighthouse Square (by the Tacoma Dome). It is amazing! Like the "Pot of Gold." It's a yellow seafood coconut curry baked in a coconut. It has other unique dishes, too. Whistful Shrimp is another favorite of mine. The cook/owner is a great guy. I'd post a link to its website, but the site is down for some reason. The website has the full menu with pictures.

      Best Tod Mun Pla?

I have real fetish for those cod cakes, where is the best?

Speaking of cod cakes - there's this chain in Thailand called "MK", that is a ......shit, what's it called..... They put a boiling pot in front of you, and you order all sorts of things, fish cakes, veggies, meat/seafood and such, and boil it in the pot in front of you, and then pick through the pot and put what you want in your bowl, and they have a really fantastic sauce that you put in with it.

Goddam good. If they opened some in the US, they'd be rich.

                I'm telling y'all: Jamjuree on 15th / Capitol Hill.

If it's not the best Panang Curry you ever had, send me the bill.

The Thai restaurant underneath Fado's on 1st is really good.
It's got a Thai name I can't remember right now.
                  S'cheap and kicks ass.

You're thinking of Mae Phim. It's pretty good, but I personally don't think it's the best. I'm so happy to see someone said Thai Siam in Ballard - definitely the best Thai I've had as well. I also really like the Jai Thai in Northgate - it's much better than the Fremont and Capitol Hill locations. The decor is much nicer and the menu is more "country" style, which I like.

Racha used to be the great undiscovered Thai place about 5 years ago. Then they got discovered and went to hell

Jai Thai used to be the great cheap undiscovered Thai place about 2 years ago. Then they, well, just went to hell.

I was one in a party of 12 to go to Racha Thai before a 7:00 pm curtain at the ballet. We arrived at 5:15. It took a half hour to get water on the table.

By 6:00, most everyone was eating except for me. Our server wasn't seen again for almost a half hour. When he came to the table I asked him about my meal. He asked me what I ordered, and a look of panic came over his face. He never ordered my food. He didn't admit it. He didn't say anything. He left the table and wasn't seen until my food was ready.

Fifteen minutes later my food arrived with the bill. They had also forgotten the meal of the friend who invited me. Both his and my dishes were on the bill. My friend got up and spoke to our server to see about comping our meals. The server said he would go "talk to the manager" about it.

Our server came back to the table to inform me that he would give us a 20% discount on the two entrees. Three bites into my meal with 15 minutes to finish, I set my fork down, looked him in the eye, and said "That is no way to run a business."

I'll never return. The decor is charming, but the food is mediocre and overpriced and the staff has to be told how to run a business. Go to any of the surrounding restaurants. They may not have neon or murals, but they all know how to treat their customers.
