I've always loved Indonesian food and finally there's a good, consistent restaurant. I've eaten there 3 times now and my last meal was the best. Its not really like Thai food, although you'll find peanut sauce (I like the Indonesian variety better) and saté. I'm not sure who can lay claim to the origins of saté, but I think its a Javanese word (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satay).
Nothing was killer hot, but some were definitely spicey and they typically aren't served in varying degrees of hotness. I suspect if you ask, they'll go easy, but many dishes are special and take days to prepare in advance. I've had the whole fish, which is sort of deep fried, and sounds much greasier than it is. I shared one with my date and we loved it. Tonight, Shaun & I had Campur Goreng (pronounced Champur Goreng) which is a variety of veggies & meats served over rice; A bit like a sampler, and we had noodles with Javanese style sauce. Both were great.
There are quite a few choices on the menu, plus some daily specials. We tried a small portion of the grilled fish in banana leaves that we really liked too.
I think the tastes and variety are subtler than Thai food. Definitely a bit more adventuresome too. The 2 entres were around $7 or $8, so our total bill was under $20.
I loved it. Check it out and let us know what you think!
