    Been here twice now.

The pork in cherry sauce with "polenta" (grits made with cheese n cream!!) was quite excellent, as was my fish in white sauce.

Excellent service and a very talented chef.
    Really good value for money.

Try the tar-tar. Maybe the best I've had. No nasty raw egg.

      I started eating again!

We of course immediately went to Le Pichet and it was excellent as usual.
We often have "second time curse" where we go to a restuarant for the first time and its bloody fantastic, but then second time it's not so good.
But Le Pichet is consistently good.

And I had the Steak Tartar - it was fabulous - I think they use the horseradish/mustard to hold it together; no egg.
Jake had a hanger steak and I wished I had ordered that too.
They must grill their steaks on dedar or something - it had a great chargrilled taste and the green peppercorn sauce was to die for.

Oooo... gotta try that steak tar tar. The only raw beef I've had is at Queen Sheba on John and Broadway. It's sooooooooooooooooo good! The menu says "rare," but then they'll explain that it's raw. I asked for it to be "rare" instead because I thought it was a steak (it says steak I think). When it arrived it was raw ground beef that looked like it briefly had been in a hot pan for a few seconds so it was warm, but definitely not cooked. I was scared at first to try it, but once I did I couldn't stop! It's incredible. I recommend. I've had it twice now. :)

My mum was telling me about the Steak Tartar they used to serve at La Reve (a restaurant my father managed in London - back in the swinging 60's) - the steak would be on the plate with a "well" with an unbroken egg in it. It being a high class place, dad would mix the egg into the steak in a graceful silver service way before placing in it front of the customer.

Speaking of silver service - I notice it's not really a big thing over here and really miss it.

Anyone know any restaurants that do good silver service?

not really my cup of tea but the best silver service I had was at Ruth Chris'. Can't say that I recommend it.
The next best after that is the Colunbia Tower Club Restaurant, 701 5th Ave , Ste 7500, (between S Airport Way & Cherry St), Seattle, WA 98104
Service is generally variable but the food is not bad and the views are to die for.

If you are interested in a little journey out of town, I can also recommend the restaurant at the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie. Especially for breakfast.

We've yet to try Salish Lodge but it's on the list for future visitations.
However, we have a reservation at le Gourmand this Thursday for the hubby's birthday - I'll try to remember to make my report on that, and my expectations are high because of what I've heard and read about it, so I'm not sure if I'm already biased by that. (Perhaps restaurants should be reviewed from a unbiased baseline - an calibration against something?)

There are reviews of the 15 best new restaurants in the Nov issue of Seattle magazine too btw. It mentions an Italian called Beatto's which we may try in Dec sometime once I've lost the 5 pounds I'm about to put on at Le Gourmand in one sitting. :)

I like Yelp.com for reviews. People are pretty merciless and there can be great recommendations and suggestions about what to have or avoid at otherwise great or lousy restaurants.

I trust the "common folk" for their opinions far more than the pros.
